Unit 4 Q1

1. Describe how you would find/recruit/choose student on-the-job training stations for your Cooperative Education program. There are many Cooperative Education programs in Arizona that rely on the student to choose their own training station. Reflect and comment on this practice as part of your reflection.

If I were in this position, I would find participants through a variety of fashions. 1st, I would use the resources of the counselors office. The school counselor is well equipped to recommend students that would be successful. I think this important, as I want to ensure that the “core” course grades aren’t going to suffer. 2nd, I would use the student organizations such as the school newspaper or the CCTV. 3rd, I would use the PTA to get the word out.

Students would be picked on their ability to be successful in this as well as the core courses. So myself, and most likely the counselor representative would go through the applications and choose people based on grades.
I do believe that the student needs some ownership in the choice of topic. After all, they are entering this program because they have goals. There need to be boundries. Obviously we will not be able to accommodate everyone, however this being said, we need to put forth the effort to see if every avenue is pursued.

  1. I thought this assignment was to determine how we would select job sites for our Coop? Anyway I like the inclusion of CCTV as a way of advertising in the school. I can see that becoming a project for CTE students to create commercials for the purpose of marketing a CTE Coop.

  2. Oops, you are correct. I would recruit sites via the PTO. I know you said yours isn't strong and that is sad. I wish more parents would be involved. Everyone knows a guy, who knows a guy who would help. We just need to find the guy. There are so many mediums available to meet the masses such as newspaper, flyers, and cold calling sites in areas where the students show interest. This being said there you could place some of the burden on the student to do some of the leg work. I am sorry for misreading the question. It is funny; I thought it was weird that the questions were similar.

  3. I think that as budgets shrink, we are going to need to be more creative with the way things are done. You could also use the CCTV as a gateway to Coop for those who wish to pursue a career in broadcasting.
